• how to say what you would like to have ("Ich hätte gern …")

• when and how to use the accusative case

Grammar: Some "rules" for articles

Article Rules

You use the masculine articles der / ein for:

• male persons and professions → der Mann, der Techniker
• days and months → der Montag, der Januar
• (alcoholic) drinks → der Kaffee, der Tee, der Wein
• many words ending in -er → der Computer, der Drucker

You use the feminine articles die / eine for:

• female persons and professions → die Frau, die Technikerin
• most words ending in -e → die Adresse, die Webseite, die Limonade
• words ending in -heit or -keit → die Freiheit, die Möglichkeit

You use the neuter articles das / ein for:

• words ending in -ment → das Dokument
•words ending in -nis → das Zeugnis

Exercise 1: Choose the correct option from the dropdown boxes to complete the sentences.

Remember: derden / die = die / das = das

Exercise 2: Fill the gaps with the accusative article and the nouns.

Remember: The accusative articles for masculine nouns are den / einen.

Exercise 3: ein, eine or einen? Drag the boxes to the correct positions.

Tip: The information in brackets tells you the gender of the noun.

EXTRA: As you can see, beverages often have a masculine or neuter article.
