EXTRA: Action and non-action verbs

You have two options for the words look, appear, and feel when choosing adjectives and adverbs.

Action verbs

When look, appear , and feel are “action verbs” you use an adverb.

An example of an action verb for look is using your eyes to see, i.e. you are performing an action.

“He is looking at the schedule carefully.”

Non-action verbs

When look, appear, and feel are “non-action verbs”, they are followed by an adjective.

An example of a non-action verb of look is describing an appearance, i.e. nothing is actively done.

“He looks nice.” or “He feels good.”

So in short:

look, appear, feel = action verb → adverb

look, appear, feel = non-action verb → adjective

Tip: Always check which word is described. Noun?/Pronoun? → Fill in the adjective. Verb? → Fill in the adverb.
